Mission Statement:
La Asociación Cultural de Estudiantes Latinoamericanos is a student run organization at the University of Pennsylvania. Established in 1958, ACELA has striven to create a community for Latinos within Penn and to educate the Penn community about Latino culture and all its diversity. In addition, ACELA is dedicated to the surrounding Latino community in Philadelphia and has made service a primary objective through ACAMP. ACAMP is ACELA's community service program in North Philadelphia. Established in 1995, ACAMP brings Penn students to the Norris Square Neighborhood project where students mentor children of all ages from the surrounding predominantly Latino neighborhood.

Objectives:

La Asociación Cultural de Estudiantes Latinoamericanos is a student run organization on Penn's campus under the Latino Coalition. Our objectives are three-fold:

  1. Create a Community for Latinos at the University of Pennsylvania
  2. Community Service
  3. Educate the Penn campus about the Latino Culture

On campus we sponsor speakers, social events, excursions, and discussions. We hold potlucks, movie nights, restaurant days, bowling games, and much more.

Every fall we host our annual Sabor Latino, an evening of latino food and music for the entire campus. Join us in the Fall of 2007 as we celebrate Sabor's 50th Anniversary.

ACELA is very dedicated to community service. In 1995 we founded ACAMP, a community service program in North Philadelphia. Check out the link ACAMP for more details on our community service program and how you can volunteer.

Our community service program and all our events are open to everyone on campus who is interested in learning more about Latino culture.
