Alternate Spring Break 2001

Olive Hill
Adult Learning Center
Olive Hill, Kentucky

MISSION

We set out for the Bluegrass hills of Kentucky to help two nuns in their mission to bring love and services to the people of Olive Hill and the surrounding towns.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Our number one accomplishment was how much we learned about what you can do with a big heart. We met amazing people doing unbelievable things because they cared about each other and the people of their community. The token things that we were able to do was paint the community learning center and form super strong relationships through mentoring students at the local high school. The majority of our work was at the community center, where we painted, learned how and installed the ceiling, did some outdoors work, and put our money into the thrift store.

ENTERTAINMENT

The very first night we hit up the local Bluegrass Folk Festival and heard some quality bluegrass. Our favorite was the grandfather and grandson playing together. Late night diners and ice cream was fun, but the best entertainment was probably being in the kitchen while we whipped up dinner. Sometimes we had Joanne, Sarah, and others that we worked with join us for one of our creations! A road trip to hopping Lexington was in order by the end to remind ourselves of what a city is like.
