The Penn chapter of Amnesty International promotes the larger organization’s vision of a world where all individuals are guaranteed their human rights. Our group meets twice each month for general body meetings where we discuss current human rights issues, write letters/sign petitions, and plan for future events. Typically, during our meetings one group member gives a brief presentation about a pressing rights issue and we sign petitions related to this topic. Furthermore, we coordinate at least one Amnesty sponsored event each month that is open to all. In the past, these events have included speakers, movie screenings, demonstrations, and coffee houses. Some of the issues we have focused on include torture, genocide, prisoners of conscience, and women’s rights. Check out our past events section for more details. We encourage all levels of participation and hope to see you at our next meeting!
