Mid-week Announcements
Service
Dear Brothers and Pledges,
Please make sure when you signed up for Philly Marathon that you:
1) Signed up on the link
2) Signed up on the link
and finally - MAKE SURE YOU SIGNED UP ON THE LINK. I have a really strong feeling that a lot of you haven't , since I checked the site that shows the number of available spots left for Sunday morning. Very recently it read 0 - and yet still some of you are signing up on the forum.
Forum:  http://pennapo.forumotion.net/

Finally - if you have a license - please consider taking the van certification course online. It's never been easier and APO really needs drivers. I can't always ask Johan to sacrifice his study time to transport people when there are other people who are capable of helping out with this. You will get half service hours for taking the online course. Please refer to my Sunday Service announcements for information on van cert. If you can't find it, email me and I will give you the information.

Have a wonderful day everyone, keep warm and I'll see you soon!

Assassins with Alpha Lambda!

Posted Mon, 11.09.09

Hello APO brothers!

The Alpha Lambda pledge class would like to invite you to join in an APO-wide game of Assassins as part of our pledge class fundraiser!

I apologize if this is a repeat for those of you who were at the brotherhood meeting yesterday. For the people who weren't, here are some of the details:

The APO Assassins game will go on for four weeks, starting on this WEDNESDAY, November 11th. You will have one week to "kill" (not literally...duh haha) your target. Details about safety zones and how to kill will be sent out upon your signup.

We are asking for a $3 entry fee, more if you would like to make donations. These proceeds are going to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, which is a childhood cancer research foundation that was started by a 4-year-old girl named Alex Scott when she was afflicted with cancer. She started a lemonade stand to raise money to "help people," and kids around the nation saw what she was doing - and wanted to help. By the time Alex was 7, the foundation had raised over $1million for cancer research. Although Alex passed away within about a year after that, her legacy still lives on in the foundation, which is run by her parents.

Please email me back (mailto:shenyangbaby@gmail.comshenyangbaby@gmail.com) by this TUESDAY at 11:30 PM if you're interested in playing. You can pay us the money later, but we are starting on Wednesday, so we need a list of the names of participants. Prizes will be gift certificates to local shops and/or restaurants. Thanks!!

New Comment Box!

Posted Tue, 10.06.09

Hey all,

I've added a third party comment box to the right side - I'll be testing this out over the next week.

The idea is to have an easy way for people other than the webmaster to add information to the site. Of course this depends on whether people actually use it, so please exercise this new addition!

Post anything from fellowship events, service projects, reminders, questions, comments/suggestions on site content, and even shout-outs.

Thanks!

If You Haven't Paid Dues...

Posted Sun, 10.04.09

Hi everyone,

If you've emailed me about dues and I haven't responded, I apologize! I've gotten a flood of emails and may not have responded individually to all of them.

To hopefully make things easier, here are 3 ways you can get them to me this week.

1. Slip them under my door at Harnwell 1808 (or knock and see if I'm there)
2. Exec meeting -- Wednesday, 9:30-10:30 in Rodin M20 -- coming at the beginning or end
3. Brotherhood meeting -- Sunday, 8PM, JMHH 240

If absolutely none of these methods work for you, please contact me. Again, $40 for active brothers, $20 for associates, and $0 for early alums.

Thanks!
Didi

APO Associate Status

Posted Thu, 09.24.09

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to remind you all that there will be an election for associate status this Sunday.  As an associate, dues and requirements are halved, but you have to be a brother for at least one semester before you can petition (sorry Alpha Kappas!).

If you want to apply for associate status, send an email to apoexec.sgt@gmail.com (again, don't reply to this email or you'll spam the listserv).  Even if you've mentioned it to me before in conversation, please send me an email anyway so I have a record.

Thanks!

Elections on Sunday for VP Membership

Posted Wednesday, 09.16.09

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to remind you all that there will be a special election held at the next meeting for the position of VP Membership, so if you're interested in running for the position, or want to nominate someone else for the position, send an email to apoexec.sgt@gmail.com (don't reply to this message, as it will spam the whole list serve).  All brothers who were active last semester are eligible to run, including those who pledged last semester.
Duties of VP Membership include:

  • Reserving rooms for all brotherhood and committee meetings using the VPUL website
  • Maintaining a record of chapter members (brothers, associates, pledges, brothers studying abroad, etc)
  • Maintaining and distributing accurate information on the brotherhood members (name, email address, etc)
  • Maintaining a record of attendance at brotherhood and committee meetings (as in, make a sign-in sheet)
  • Coordinating a membership retreat
  • Providing necessary materials for brotherhood rituals (initiation, etc)

Jen Shen has some great ideas and will pass them on to the new VP, so don't feel like joining now will set you behind schedule!

Thanks a lot!

Available Positions on Board

Posted Wednesday, 09.16.09

At-a-Glance

  • VP Membership position is available
  • Two Fundraising Chair positions are available

See below for full email.

Good morning APO Brothers!

Thanks to everyone that came out to the meeting last night!  It was great to see everyone again and I hope you all enjoyed it and I hope to see even more of you at the next meeting.

Just a reminder, we are looking for both fundraising chairs and a new VP Membership since Jen Shen had to step down from her position.

If you are interested in becoming a fundraising chair, please email me at this email, apoexec.president@gmail.com, for more information by this Wednesday at 10 PM.   I will then email all interested in parties with a short questionnaire and set-up a meeting time with everyone to talk about the fundraising event and select the chairs for this semester.

For VP Membership, please email all nominations to Matt Lanza, apoexec.sgt@gmail.com.  If you have any questions about the position, feel free to email me or Jen Shen at apoexec.vpmembership@gmail.com for more information about what the position entails.

Other than that, I hope you're all excited for upcoming APO events this semester, but those events can only happen with you're help and input!  So as a plug for Sam, Alana, and Nate and Jillian, join committees, start hosting fellowships and service projects, and please attend the exciting rush events happening these next two weeks!

Posted Mon, 11.09.09

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a great homecoming weekend!!

By the way - I neglected to say this at the meeting today, but when people sign-up or let the hosts know ahead of time that they are contributing donations, please be considerate and enforce the same kind of rule that we do for projects. If you decide you no longer want to donate something, tell them way in advance so that they can accomodate this change. Do NOT tell them the late night before, or the morning of. Please be considerate of the hosts, it's not fun getting emails the morning of and realizing you have to go and contribute your own money last minute.

Brothers, if you only had one - I wrote down one hosting for you, if you had more then I just wrote that you were "Done" with your hosting requirements for the semester. Mid-Week Updates

Posted Fri, 09.25.09

Dear Brothers,

Forum:  http://pennapo.forumotion.net/forum.htm

Policy Change: If you sign up for an APO project (meaning it's on the forum, on the calendar, in my emails,I've been publicizing it, and it's open to the entire brotherhood) even if you are the only brother who went, you will get full service hours.

This is to encourage people to sign up for the smaller projects even if they see that no one else has. So please don't hesitate to participate in any project. And of course if there is something that you find you want to open to the brotherhood, email me ASAP.

Upcoming Projects:
September 26th (Saturday)
1) Mandatory #2 : Morris Park (Rush Service Project) 10 am - 1 pm (Details of who's going and where we're meeting will come soon, I promise!)

2) Ronald McDonald House Design Home 10:30 am - 4 pm

  • Volunteers will have the opportunity to enjoy the surroundings of this innovative home while acting as ambassadors of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House.

September 27th (Sunday)
1) Ronald McDonald House Design Home 10:30 am - 4 pm

Upcoming in October:

  • David Hilbert's Garden
  • Mill Creek
  • UC Green Project

Brothers, please try to come to soup kitchens next week. Some rushes can't make it to the rush service project so Jill, Nate, and I decided to give them the opportunity to come help us with soup kitchens.

Have a good night,

Sam

Sunday Service Updates

Posted Mon, 09.21.09

Hello Brothers,

Congratulations to Stephen Dong, our new VP Membership!

As promised, this email will be kept as short as possible.

Forum:  http://pennapo.forumotion.net/forum.htm

New: From now on, if you want to host a soup kitchen email Bao Ha : habaoc@gmail.com
He will be in charge of the soup kitchen section of the forum as well. So any of the technical stuff - please refer to him. However, if you have issues or questions about the soup kitchen - you should still email me about them!

Upcoming Projects:

September 22nd (Tuesday)
1) Philly AIDS Thrift :   5 p.m. - 8 p.m.

  • (Volunteers would be involved with numerous processes to help with upkeep of the store.)

September 23rd (Wednesday)

1) Red Cross Blood Drive 11 am - 5 pm

  • In addition to the forum, you also need to sign up at penn.givesblood.org
  • (You can volunteer for as long (or short) as you want to.)

September 26th (Saturday)
1) Mandatory #2 : Morris Park (Rush Service Project) 10 am - 1 pm

2) Ronald McDonald House Design Home 10:30 am - 4 pm

  • Volunteers will have the opportunity to enjoy the surroundings of this innovative home while acting as ambassadors of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House.

September 27th (Sunday)
1) Ronald McDonald House Design Home 10:30 am - 4 pm

We are going to have a new host's template.

Anyone who hosts a project will now use this template that I'm attaching to this email (I will try to upload it on the forum) to record hours. Just type in your project in the third column where it says "Insert Project". Then underneath - next to the names of the brothers, record the number of hours your project was for every brother who was there.

For ex : Morris Park will be 3 hours. So for every brother who was there - I would record 3 in the column next to their names.

Cool? Let me know if you have any problems.

Have a good night,
Sam

I know, I'm sorry this wasn't sent out on the massive email that Anne just sent out. I just got an email from our CHAC liason and she sent me the link for van classes. If you can make it - please sign up ASAP and let me know if you are signed up for the class.

Sign-up is first come first serve, and we do need more drivers.

http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/civichouse/vanform.php

You will definitely get service hours for going to the class, so please sign up if you can. I'll update everyone if new dates are added.

Best,
Sam
