Eligibility

There are no restrictions on age or affiliation. Youth, adult, and non-collegiate competitors are welcome.

Newcomers must have started competing after September 1, 2009.

Competitors must determine their eligibility according to the YCN Proficiency Points System. The accumulation of seven or more points in an event at a particular level makes a competitor ineligible to compete in that event/level. A couple must compete at the level of the more experienced dancer.

Please, please, please don't dance down. If you've placed in the top three at a few competitions, that means you're doing well and you should certainly take a shot at the next higher level!

Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties resulting from rescheduling the competition, the prizes for Clover Star Classic 2010 have been changed. Cash prizes will only be given to International style Champ events, according to the following roster:

1st place - $100
2nd place - $50

There must be at least a 3-couple final for cash prizes to be awarded.

Costumes

Costumes are prohibited in Newcomer and Bronze, but are allowed in all other events (including the syllabus Viennese Waltz and Paso Doble).

Costumes are defined as:
- Anything with rhinestones, sequins or feathers
- Tailsuits and Latin shirts with a slitted front or other such styling

Syllabus

Newcomer and Bronze: ISTD Bronze syllabus for International style, USISTD Bronze syllabus for American style. No continuity footwork.

Silver and Gold: ISTD through Silver or Gold respectively for International style, and through Silver or Gold respectively from USISTD, DVIDA, FADS, AMDS, or any other major syllabus for American style.

Syllabus Viennese Waltz and Paso Doble: ISTD Gold and below for International style

Open: Not restricted to syllabus, but no lifts permitted.

Registration Rules

Dancers in silver and above may double register to compete in their level and one level higher. This means that dancers in newcomer and bronze may NOT double register.

A dancer may register for both bronze and silver in the same dances ONLY IF he/she dances with different partners in bronze and silver and neither of these partners also double registers. For example, bronze Bob may dance with Alice in bronze and Caroline in silver, but then Alice cannot dance silver and Caroline cannot dance bronze or gold. A silver dancer MUST NOT dance down to bronze, even if a team is short on leaders or followers.

We will run bronze callbacks before the first newcomer round, and any unpaired newcomers will be able to dance with those who do not get called back in bronze.

A competitor's entries may not span more than two levels within smooth/standard or rhythm/latin. For example, a gold latin competitor who wishes to do rhythm must do so in silver, gold, or pre-champ. However, a gold latin competitor may do bronze smooth or standard. If a dancer is dancing pre-champ or champ in any category, he or she must dance silver or above in all categories.

Same-sex partnerships are ONLY allowed in newcomer and bronze. The first round of bronze will be run before newcomer, and anyone who is not called back in bronze will be eligible to lead newcomers.

Any couple eligible who has not placed out of Gold may compete in the Syllabus Viennese Waltz and Paso Doble events.
