Practice Tips for Competitive Ballroom Dancing
- Start with drills to warm up, then move on to working on technique slowly. Run through your steps in a slow and controlled fashion and check your feet, legs, posture, etc. Then move on to practicing faster and finally your routine to music.
- Make sure you practice dancing alone as well as with your partner. When you practice alone, dance as if your partner was there (“feel” the connection, etc). This will help you gain better balance and awareness of your own body.
- When you practice, don’t practice a certain step/move/action for longer than 20-30 minutes at a time. After focusing on something in particular for that long, switch to something else so your body can keep up with you.
