Information for the New Year

"If you are an incoming freshman at Penn for the fall of 2009, I'd like to offer my congratulations! The beginning of the year is an incredibly exciting time at Penn, so I'd like to try and limit as much confusion as I can for freshmen interested in joining an a cappella group. The flow of the audition process is essentially as follows: FPAN, auditions, callbacks, acceptance. I'll break it down for you.

"FPAN is a PAC-wide showcase where incoming freshmen get to view all the performing arts groups at Penn. Look for Counterparts with the rest of the a cappella groups. This year we'll be performing "Sittin On The Dock of the Bay" originally recorded by Otis Redding, starring the illustrious Johnny Lloyd CP '11 on vocals. During the next two days the group will be holding auditions for five hours on both Sunday and Monday. Write down the times and locations as we will not extend hours for any one person's inability to meet our schedule. To sign up for a time-slot, sign your name on the sign-up sheet outside of the audition room for the time-slot of your choosing. For emergency cases, please email me explaining your situation. Counterparts will expect all auditioners to have prepared a verse and a chorus to perform a cappella in front of the group. To get an idea of the kind of song we are looking for, feel free to explore the music section of the website. On the following day a list of auditioners that the group would like to hear again (called "Callbacks") will be posted in the downstairs lobby of Platt Performing Arts House (3702 Spruce Street underneath the restaurant Beijing). Callbacks will be held on Wednesday September 16th and/or Thursday September 17th depending on yeild. Both sessions will take place in the Ben Franklin Room (Houston Hall 218). Feel free to email me with any questions and I can't wait to meet you this fall!"

Rebecca Cook CP'11, President 2009-2010
