Making Decisions...

Since coming to Penn, you've had to make many decisions about the quality of your life now and for the future. One such decision involves the use of alcohol or other drugs. A study of college drinking habits by Harvard University revealed that almost half of the respondents 'binged' when they drank (binging is defined as the consumption of 5 or more drinks in a row for men, 4 or more in a row for women).

Binge drinking can have serious negative consequences for both drinkers and non-drinkers: trips to the emergency room, vandalism, sexual assault, falling grades, broken friendships. The impact can be both short- and long-term.

But you can decide to join the non-binging half of the student population - and get the most out of Penn's rich and varied social scene. Since 8 out of 10 Penn undergraduates surveyed said that you don't have to be drunk/high to have a good time at Penn, maybe the 'party school' image is distorting perceptions - and obscuring the majority who make wise choices.
