For Directors...

Front Row Theatre Company (FTC) is dedicated to performing socially relevant theatre in intimate settings, fulfilling our unwavering desire to have fun, and bringing high quality production values to everything we do. We accept director proposals and hold director interviews for our entire season at the end of each academic year, in April.

Front Row Theatre Co. is now accepting proposals for ALL of our mainstage productions (New Student Orientation, Fall, Winter and Spring) for the 2009-2010 season. Please note the special instructions below for proposing for the NSO show.

Your submission should include:

  • 6 copies of a 1-2 page proposal that discusses your vision of the production, why it is appropriate for FTC, and why you want to direct for FTC. Be sure to specify for which season(s) you wish to propose.
  • 6 copies of the play you are proposing.

You may propose for more than one season! Submissions for our NSO show will be due by noon on Wednesday, April 21st, and submissions for the Fall, Winter, or Spring will be due by noon on Saturday, April 24th. If you are interested in proposing for our NSO show, please contact our chair, Annie Weinstein (annwe@sas.upenn.edu), in addition to submitting a proposal. All proposals must be submitted either directly to Annie or to the FTC mailbox in the Platt Student Performing Arts House. We select our season by director, not by show, so although you will be proposing one particular show to us, it may be helpful to have other shows in mind! We also must choose one collaboration show that is 90 minutes or less.

Looking for inspiration? We have many play suggestions and would be happy to help you choose. Some past productions include Angels in America: Copenhagen, Stop Kiss, Equus, In Trousers, Death and the Maiden, Loot, How I Learned to Drive, Proof, This Is Our Youth, Gallows Humor , and The Goat or, Who is Sylvia?

For more information, you can speak with any board member or contact us at ftc@dolphin.upenn.edu.
