Penn Club Happy Hour co-hosted with HKSA

Thursday January 8, By Ray
The Catch - Seafood and Tapas

HKSA kicked off the New Year festivities by inviting its alumni and current students to "The Catch" at Soho - a Tapas bar that specializes in seafood.

Situated at the edge of Soho, Central, The Catch offered a quiet ambiance that fitted well with its pub-like intimate space. As members started to drop in and glasses started to clink, Penn HKSA welcomed its alumni to friendly conversations with current students as well as plates of free tapas on the side. In the end, everyone had a great time and suggested more events of such nature to be hosted in the future.

Winter Solstice @ Club 9

This Christmas, Penn HKSA collaborated with BU, LSE, NYU and UBC to deliver one of the best parties on the longest night of the year - Winter Solstice.

Held at the premium venue Club 9 on top of the Galleria, hot dancing was complemented perfectly by chilling drinks at the outdoor balcony area.

HKSA Study Break (and Secret Santa)

Friday December 5, By Ray
Curry Fish Balls

During study break, HKSA hosted a Study Break to ease tensions and brought food and drinks to boost brain power!

Apart from classic cupcakes and egg tarts, HKSA made curry fish balls and soy sauce chicken wings - an instant hit indeed! Strawberries with whipped cream also made a tough competitor against fruit smoothies and hot chocolate. Just as our members started to enjoy the food and company, our Secret Elf Sonia worked hard to deliver gifts from the Secret Santas. This year gifts were creative and thoughtful - a magic kit, a CD and even a self-cooked meal! For those who missed out this time, don't forget to sign up for Secret Santa next year!

Korean BBQ Dinner

Friday November 21, By Ray
Korean BBQ

As the weather grew colder, HKSA subsidized all its members to an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ dinner at the popular International Smokeless BBQ.

Many might remember the rich BBQ platter that featured juicy rib steaks, seasoned prawns, chicken and pork fillets as well as raw onions and zucchinis. Some even had fun eating Korean BBQ the traditional way - wrapping food in lettuce!

King of Prussia Shopping Trip

Saturday November 15, By Ray
King of Prussia Mall

Welcoming members from HKSA, CSA, Club Sing and KSA; a shopping trip to the King of Prussia Mall started early in the morning with fresh muffins on the yellow bus.

After getting to KOP, everyone dispersed at once to find their favorite shops.
Being the third largest shopping mall in America, KOP offered a serious challenge to all veteran shoppers, especially given the many weekend discounts and seasonal sales.

In the end, everyone was exhausted to a point where all motivation for shopping was simply lost. Although tired physically, we are sure that everyone had a great time finding just what they needed!

SINFUL - A Halloween Party

Saturday November 1, By Eugene
Sinful

KSA and Club Sing's annual Halloween Party - SINFUL, kicked off on the night of the 1st of November, 2008.
The place was filled with people dressed in outrageous costumes, namely a few nurses/murses, teddy bears, power plugs (yes, power plugs) and etc.
Everyone (OVER 21!!!) got reasonably drunk, special thanks to Han Wool for their drink offers.

Han Wool might be a ridiculous place for food and parties, but HKSA is glad to say that we once again pulled off this traditional party with no loss. We're not coming back next year though, we'd be finding somewhere else!!!

So watch this space next Halloween to see what we've got in store for you!

HKSA Games Night

Saturday October 25, By Ray
Games Night

Cards, mah-jong and free ice cream? That can only mean Games Night hosted by HKSA!

No doubt it was an exciting evening - constant screams from those who were huddled together playing "Seven-Level Pig", intense moments on the mah-jong table, casual relaxation playing "Big Two"... Students who came from other countries and regions also had a taste of these favorite Hong Kong games as they went through crash courses of Chinese symbols and game rules.

HKSA Dimsum Trip

Saturday October 18, By Janice
Dim Sum

HKSA invited all members from different years to a free dim sum in Imperial Inn at China town during mid-October.

To our great surprise, we have a lot more members joining us for lunch than expected. The dim sum meal ended in great enjoyment and lots of catching up on one and other's current life at Penn.

HKSA Assassins

Saturday October 4 - November 2, By Sonia
HKSA Assassins

HKSA Assassins began on October 4th and was an opportunity for HKSA members to show off their stealth and cunning as they targeted other members for a grand prize of $80 cash (and the privilege of being Dai-Je ("Big Sister") Karen's bodyguard).

Each assassin was given a deadly (paper) HKSA shuriken and at the end Ivy Tse (Class of 2012) emerged from the competition as HKSA¡¦s top assassin, with Eugene Lui (Class of 2011) earning 2nd place (4 movie tickets to The Bridge) and Jacqueline Li (Class of 2009) coming 3rd (2 movie tickets to The Bridge).

HKSA would like to thank all those who participated and we hope you had fun.

HKSA Dessert Night

Friday October 3, By Ray
Dessert Night

Although many may recall the night as a chocolate fondue chaos (largely because no one expected the fruit to be so hard to cut), the thing that everyone definitely will remember is the long chats at McClelland Hall. With light Canto Pop in the background and Chinese rice dumplings, members exchanged word on their school life, course tips and future plans.

HKSA Movie Night

Friday September 26, By Ray
Young and Dangerous

Crowned as one of the classics in Hong Kong films, Young and Dangerous portrays a group of young triad members, detailing their adventures and dangers in the complex Hong Kong Triad society.

Apart from the thrill and action, Young and Dangerous introduces interesting aspects such as brotherhood, the Hong Kong drinking culture and the dark triad scene.

HKSA Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration

Sunday September 14, By Ray
Mooncake

Although the winds were strong, after much struggling, laterns were eventually lit and so began the festive celebrations of Mid-Autumn Festival.

While everyone enjoyed mooncakes, our members also explained to American friends the myth of Houyi and Chang'e, effectively transforming our event into a cultural exchange session!

HKSA Welcoming Banquet Dinner

Friday September 12, By Karen
Welcoming Fortune Cookie

Our first event of the year was our annual HKSA Welcoming Banquet Dinner, it was held at the Sang Kee Duck Restaurant. This is one of the most popular events of the year, and it was great getting together for the first time "officially" after summer.

Apart from electing our three freshmen representatives (Sonia Lee, Stephanie Chung and Janice Shiu), we had a really delicious 8-course dinner and we also played some HK-related games. After dinner, some of us even went to Karaoke and it was a lot of fun!! :-)

UPenn HKSA Alumni Mixer

Thursday August 21, By Ray
Mixer

After a hard day's work at summer internships or full time jobs alike, Penn students and alumni converged at Lumiere, IFC to cool down and chit-chat.

Insight on internship and the economy were passed down from the alumni to the students, making the event as rewarding as it was fun.
