PENN on fire heading into playoffs

One more weekend left in the season and the Quakers could not be in a better position heading into the playoffs.  One week after clinching their first ever MACHA regular season championship, PENN headed up to West Orange, NJ to finish off the season.  Things got off to a bit of a slow start with Seton Hall striking first, scoring 4 minutes into the the first period.  But the confident Quakers would not flinch and went on a scoring streak of their own.  Junior Mike Sand tied the game 6 minutes later.  Two shifts later, junior Todd Leri would spark a scoring streak.  Leri scored two goals in 20 seconds, giving PENN a 3-1 lead with 5 minutes to go in the period.  Freshman Jeff Goldberg added another 3 minutes later  At the end of the first period the Quakers led 4-1.  The dominance continued into the second period, junior Jeff Bagnoli scored 3 minutes into the period, followed by Andy Domont, Micah Cohen, and a second from Mike Sand.  Suddenly an 8-1 lead had emerged.  Seton Hall would get a goal with 5 minutes left in the period to make it 8-2, but senior Whit Matthews extended the cushion, scoring on the power play with 30 seconds remaining in the period.  In the third period Matthews and Cohen would each notch another giving PENN a dominating 11-2 lead.  The scoring was capped off by senior Frank Baston's first goal of the season on a shot from the right side of the net.  When all was said and done, freshman Adam Kweskin had turned in a solid 23 save performance and the scored board read 12-3.

PENN looks to capture its first ever MACHA Playoff Championship this weekend.  The first seeded Quakers will play this coming Saturday at Ice Works in Aston, PA (near Philadelphia Intl. Airport).  PENN will face either #4 Millersville or #5 Princeton (they play Friday) on Saturday at 8:15.  If the Quakers win they will play for the Championship on Sunday at 5:00 pm.  Hopefully we will see you all there!
