Title: "Sports and Social Justice in the Obama Era: What's Possible?"
Description: With Barack Obama being inaugurated only two days before this panel, the interplay between sports and social justice is already showing signs of possible change; however, will such change prove to be significant, or just window-dressing? Some countervailing trends exist: more prominent athletes openly supported the first basketball-playing presidential nominee than any other nominee in recent memory, but the number of black head football coaches in Division I shows all signs of remaining abysmal. University of Pennsylvania Prof. Ken Shropshire and ESPN columnist Jemele Hill are both well-known commentators on our topic, and will endeavor to shed some light on where we are headed.
