It's been an amazing season for Penn Mock Trial, with outstanding performances all around. Starting the season off strong at GAMTI, with Captain Craig Park walking away as the highest ranked witness in the tournament, the team hopped on a plane and jetted off to California to compete at the Beach Party. The Penn Mock Trial program returned to Philadelphia with 6th place, with Jay Friedel and Craig Park bringing home attorney and witness awards, respectively. We ended the season in New Haven, at the Yale Invitational. Captains Eddy Bueser and Henry Engelstein both won attorney awards, with their team placing 5th. From the freshman team, Renata O'Donell won an attorney award.
This weekend, the University of Pennsylvania was proud to host its own invitational, the Quaker Classic. 50 teams from all over the country joined us for an amazing weekend of mock trial. Congratulations to the University of Delaware, team Jinx, for taking 1st place with a perfect record of 8 wins.
Tab Summary
On Friday, October 19, 2012, seven mockers met at a street corner in West Philadelphia. It was the first time the Magnificent Seven had ever assembled as a team. Without any scripts or roles, they boarded the plane for St. Louis, where the next morning they would compete in the Arch Invitational, hosted by WashU. Every round fully embraced Penn Mock Trial's motto: "DO IT LIVE." Different attorneys, different witnesses, different theories, and different cross examinations. With nothing more than a knowledge of the case materials, MagSev put on four exceedingly responsive trials, directly clashing with the super-scripted and formal style of the MidWest. The result? Three perfect-ranked witness roles, one perfect ranked plaintiff closer, and a 20-rank attorney award for Trisha Jain, who both opened and closed for the defense. MagSev tied for 2nd with 7 wins and the highest point differential in the tournament, placing 3rd with CS.
