About the Team

The Club Tennis team at the University of Pennsylvania is a competitive sports club. The Men's Club Team and the Women's Club Team recently combined into the UPenn Club Tennis Team. Our roster is comprised of about 75 male and female students (undergraduate and graduate), most of whom have played in the upper levels of their respective high school team and have held sectional rankings. The team competes in the Middle States Tennis on Campus League, playing schools such as Penn State, Lehigh, The College of New Jersey, and the Princeton Junior Varsity team. The year culminates in an annual road trip to club tennis nationals.

Matches

The team competes for the most part in the USTA Middle States Tennis on Campus League, with some exhibitions against local schools. The matches are generally co-ed with 2 men's singles, 2 men's doubles, 2 women's singles, 2 women's doubles, and a mixed doubles. The overall score (best of 9) is the one that is sent to the league for ranking purposes. If both teams are willing, some exhibition matches will be played between the men's teams (such as a third or fourth singles or a third doubles). When scores are posted on this website, the official best of 9 (co-ed) score is reported along with how the men individually did in their official matches and exhibition matches.

Practices

The practice times for the Fall 2009 season have been set. Although the men and women play matches together, practices and tryouts are held separately. For the men, practices will be from 8-10 on Mondays and Wednesdays. For the Women, practices are Monday 6-8 and Thursday 7-9 PM. The team requires that every member attend at least one practice per month and encourages members to come out more than required. The players that attend practice most frequently are given preference when the rosters for the weekend matches are made. Since we can only usually take about five people to matches, participating in practice is a key component in being able to play in matches.
