Fair Practices Code (FPC)

The Fair Practices Code, often referred to as the "FPC" by NEC and Student Government members, is an integral part of the NEC's mission of ensuring all elections are run fairly.

The FPC is a document that clearly outlines how elections are to be run (including regulating candidate spending and campaigning techniques).

The FPC is available for review by any interested member of the University community, and is updated from time to time internally by the NEC.

Any member of the University Community (including the NEC) has the right to file a violation against a candidate, if the individual believes part of the FPC has been violated. Additionally, anyone can also file a violation against the NEC or a 3rd party (not a candidate, surrogate, the NEC, etc) if it is believed an action of one of them biased the election. Violations are accepted by the NEC at the close of each election cycle.

If violations are filed, the individual who is filing the violation has the right to present her/his case, and the individual who is charged with the violation has the right to defend her/himself. The entire NEC body then deliberates in private, determining if the FPC was indeed violated and if so, the necessary actions (per the FPC policy).
