SPA and PAC supported programs
After School Arts Program
The Platt Student Performing Arts House's After School Arts Program brings students from local West Philadelphia middle and high schools to Penn for instruction in and engagement with many of the performing arts. Penn students involved in this program serve as dance instructors, acting coaches, vocal coaches, and music instructors for students from the West Philadelphia community one or two days each week during the program. They strive to not only teach proper technique but also foster a fun and supportive environment in which these students can explore new areas of performance art. Each semester culminates in a unique performance by the students. These performances have taken various forms in the past including a variety show, with performances ranging from monologues to gospel singing to modern dance, and an original musical crafted by the Penn student instructors.
PAC at West Philadelphia High School
The PAC at West Philadelphia High School program brings members of Performing Arts Council groups to perform for the students in the Creative and Performing Arts program at West Philadelphia High School. PAC groups are given the opportunity to perform for nearly 300 students at the high school. Also, after performing Penn students may teach workshops based on their performance style to small groups of students from the high school. This program not only provides PAC groups an opportunity to perform, but also exposes local students to areas of the performing arts they may not have previously experienced.
For more information on these programs or to become involved, please contact the PAC Community Service Coordinator, Anastasia Matijkiw at paccomserv@gmail.com.
