As has been tradition for over 12 years, there has been an email discussion forum which we can use for both relevant news and irrelevant twaddle (less of the former, more of the latter).
Please read this before you start posting to the forum, so you don't get yelled at or smacked around later (by Koosh).
1. To submit anything to the list as a whole, simply mail your message to "the-roost@googlegroups.com". Your message will reach each of the approximately 150 members on the mailing list. FYI: The list serve is set up so that clicking reply automatically replies to the entire list serve. So if you want to respond "off list" to a specific member, make sure to edit the "To" box before you send.
2. If you would like to subscribe, unsubscribe, use the googlegroups website. If you have problems receiving mail from the mailing list, or have any questions in general, please email Adam Sherr at sherr@nursing.upenn.edu.
3. This is a high volume listserve. Might not be a good idea having this stuff mix with your important email, so we recommend using a gmail account to receive list email (plus, then you can filter it).
4. Don't be shy. Everyone on Oxy is quite nice in real life (we promise.)
5. It's no big deal to unsubscribe, you can always resubscribe later, however, large quantities of unread mail may anger system administrators.
6. Instead of posting attachments, you can post items to the roost google group home page (http://groups.google.com/group/the-roost). Then you can send the list serve a link to it. (Adam Sherr Clause I).
7. If you're going to include a previous message with your message, it's a good idea only to include the relevant parts. Edit out everything else. Also, before responding to someone's post, at least skim through all the subsequent postings (this is where gmail's threads help). Someone else may have already said what you were about to say. (Adam Sherr Clause II)
8. Keep the subject lines of your email rated ‘G’ – many of our subscribers check their email from work and public places. No one should get fired or blackballed because of oxymoron email (of all things!). (Al Hemmingsen Clause)
9. Don't fake your name, whether by using a throwaway email or by signing using someone else's name as your default signature. If you are not brave enough to say it with your own name, it probably shouldn't be said.
10. Please don't send messages saying, "so-and-so has an account, put them on the list." It's rude (as well as illegal) to put someone on a mailing list such as this without their consent, especially because not everybody reads mail on a regular basis. One needs to explicitly state that he/she wants to be on the mailing list.
11. Enjoy!
