The Team
The
University of Pennsylvania Sailing Team is an age old tradition. Founded
in the dawn of collegiate sailing, the team has continued the tradition
of fun, exciting and competitive sailing for decades.
The Penn Sailing Team is currently a Club level sport. While this means that we are not a varsity sport at Penn, we do still compete against varsity level teams -- some of the best in the country, in fact!
At present time, our sailing facilities are located at the Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia. The yacht club is roughly a fifteen minute ride from Penn's campus. Our fleet consists of nine new Flying Juniors, which are double-handed competitive racing boats.
We practice at least three times each week during the heart of the season. We sail during both the fall and spring seasons. Because we are a club sport, team members are not required to attend all practices, but are encouraged to do so.
During both seasons, we have a full weekend regatta schedule of intercollegiate races. We are part of MAISA (Mid-Atlantic Inter-collegiate Sailing Association) and sail both sectional and intersectional races as well as women's and freshmen races.
