This Sinophilic, Korean American pengyou hails from the great southern city of Houston, the home of great steak, boba milk tea that is far superior to Bubble House's, a large Taiwanese population, and a huge Chinatown with copious supply of dimsum. Can we say she's largely influenced? Granted she's no huayi, she couldn't help but be instantaneously hooked by PennYo on that momentous day she set foot on Locust Walk and saw two sexy Yos handing out flyers (note: very important, this flyer-handing-out task).
As a Yo, Jeannie shares love for k-ge (aka noraebang, bka karaoke) and Yue Kee, the PY staple - and that is probably why the Yos accepted her despite the fact that she didn't understand a single word of Chinese. Her fondest memories with the Yos include trips to Chinatown singing all the way there and back, partying it up with some bootylicious dancing (notably at a Yo residence, a tradition started by dOOk, the father of all PennYos), inebriated Monopoly, and PennYo Shanghai Tour. One result of the PY lifestyle, marked by the hot new jackets, is that Jeannie has gone from speaking no Chinese as a freshman to speaking it fluently (okay, studying abroad at Tsinghua may have had something to do with it). Thanks to the Yo's, Chinese pop (and thanks to dOOk and Josh, jazz and fusion as well) has taken a place in her heart right next to R&B, electronica and classical, and she wouldn't exchange the precious moments with her Yo's, both offstage and onstage, for anything.
After leaving Penn, Jeannie took residence in Los Angeles where she enjoys swaying with the palm trees, laying out in the sand, and humming Tao Zhe. Once a Yo, always a Yo!
