Sining is a girl of many names. Some call her “sinning”, some “singing”, others “seee-ning-za-ho”, some just make it to the first syllable and quit. But she most often goes by “sea-ning.”
Sining was born a loud and obnoxious baby in the sweltering heat of a Beijing summer. There’s was nothing special about the date, other than it didn’t fall on Fourth of July, Christmas, or Valentine’s Day like the rest of her family. The first day of preschool was a crucial day in toddler Sining’s life when she was promptly suspended after biting someone. The reason remains unknown. At the age of 4.5, she was uprooted and dropped into the United States.
There, Sining grew up as a wild child. She was known for catching disgusting bugs, playing Pokemon, and riding her bike everywhere. Her arts training involved the typical Chinese investments in painting, cultural dance, piano performance, and she finally skewed away from the stereotype when she picked up a clarinet. Sining’s love of singing began when her parents bought a BuBuGao Karaoke machine, and her grandfather made her sing ridiculously high songs in her squeaky falsetto voice at the age of 7. Things mellowed out in high school when the squeaky voice dropped an octave. Sining then discovered Guang Liang…and then Jay Chou, Wang Leehom, and the list goes on.
At Penn, she discovered PennYo, and fell in love. She has dedicated herself to promoting the group to everyone on campus. She hopes everyone will come to love them as much as she does :) !!
