Stan was born and raised in the tropical yet polluted city of Jakarta, in Indonesia. He lived in Oklahoma for the first few years of his life though, so his first language is actually English, not Indonesian. He actually gained a Southern accent because of that in the process, but it vanished a long time ago (thank goodness).
He has been exposed to music ever since he was in elementary school, when his parents forced him to take up the viola. He doesn't think he's very good at it for someone who's played for nine years, to be honest (he really almost never practiced it). He didn't really sing much until high school, when he joined the choir for the sole purpose of traveling on a tour to Europe with them. But because of that, he found out he actually liked singing. When he migrated to the University of Pennsylvania to study...something (he finally decided to take Political Science after a disastrous stint in trying out being Pre-Med), Stan had a fairly relaxing freshman year as he tried to adapt to life as a foreigner. However, as sophomore year was looming, Stan discovered PennYo on YouTube, and after being captivated by their sound, he decided to join despite an elementary knowledge of both the Chinese language and Chinese music, and the rest is history.
Through some odd twist of fate, Stan somehow became the Music Director for this group, making him the first MD (a) to not have a monosyllabic last name, (b) from Indonesia, and (c) that can't read/speak Chinese very well at all. Despite all this, you'll still see Stan attempt to blow pitch pipes and gesticulating wildly in front of the group during PennYo concerts. Please don't mind him if he suddenly jumps in excitement, he tends to do that sometimes.
