To best execute our work and create lasting impact both within Penn and abroad, PIBV is organized into five collaborative committees:

The Marketing Committee promotes PIBV and its mission, projects, and events within the Penn community and to manage the image of PIBV within the larger social-impact sphere. Past marketing projects include managing Facebook events, developing a PIBV Travel Blog, and creating fliers and brochures for events and information sessions. There will be numerous opportunities to collaborate with the fundraising, project development, and events committees to effectively publicize our initiatives to the appropriate target audience. Individual committee member responsibilities include:

  • Designing marketing materials for PIBV events
  • Collaborating with other committees to generating standardized press packets for release
  • Using networking tools and creative marketing to raise the profile of PIBV among NGO networks/social impact
  • organizations

The Fundraising Committee is responsible for raising funds to cover costs of PIBV project participants and focuses on local fundraising events. For the 2009-2010 school years, PIBV is proud to launch our biggest fundraising initiative to date, which includes corporate sponsorship campaigns, contacting individual donors, and researching endowments, and writing grants to support future PIBV activities. Individual committee member responsibilities include:

  • Establishing financially beneficial relationships with professors, departments, and other University officials
  • Contacting alumni, individual philanthropists, and family members for sponsorship
  • Liaising with corporations and social networks to raise funds
  • Researching, crafting, and submitting grant applications on behalf of PIBV

The Project Development Committee is responsible for researching, contacting, and building partnerships with NGO's abroad. In the Fall PD members will be researching and contacting select NGOs to determine whether a summer trip is feasible. In the spring, PD Members will work closely with the NGO and Project team to further hammer out the logistics of the trip. In the past year alone, the Project Development Committee has contacted dozens of NGOs across the world and laid the ground work for 6 projects including projects in China, India, Guatemala, and South Africa. Individual committee member responsibilities include:

  • Sending emails to NGOs inquiring about partnering together
  • Collaborating with NGOs to develop appropriate project managing a project team to ensure that they file trip documentation, are vaccinated, have visas, etc.
  • Overseeing the education series for new project team members to prepare them for their trip

The Events Committee is responsible for planning both internal and external events. Past events include speakers on corruption in NGOs, an introduction to microfinance concepts, and a trip to New York City to visit NGO headquarters. In the spring, the events committee focuses project-specific events which include organizing business workshops, cultural panels, and trip preparation sessions to ensure that our trip teams are prepared for their projects. Individual committee member responsibilities include:

  • Generating ideas for events, contacting appropriate professors and related clubs
  • Coordinating logistics, working with members of other committees to procure funding and publicity for the event
  • Meeting with project development committee members to determine the most appropriate cultural and mentoring events for project-specific events.

The Internal Affairs Committee is responsible for increasing PIBV's presence and credibility by evaluating the club's impact on our NGO partners, maintaining relationships with the University, and cultivating internal cohesion. As PIBV's newest committee, there will be to opportunities to brainstorm new ventures. Individual committee member responsibilities include:

  • Conducting exit interviews with trip participants and NGO partners to feedback on our consulting project's selection, recruitment, and preparation process
  • Research and develop metrics, surveys, and other quantitative methods of evaluating our impact on NGOs
  • Creating case studies that summarize our consulting projects
  • Working with other clubs, professors, or students to learn about best practices in nonprofit consulting
  • Organizing committee socials to further membership development
