HWI is a non-profit and non-governmental organization that arranges specific projects and cultural exchange trips tailored to the interests of international volunteers to help them understand and alleviate the challenges of Ghana while gaining hands-on experience in their field of choice.
Humanity World International was inspired by Glover Ernst, a German volunteer who taught children math in the Nkwanta community in Ghana. Ernst encouraged his students to give back to their communities. After working closely with Ernst, Ghanaian Paul Badasu (then a student) organized his fellow students for volunteer clean up work. Excited by Paul's enthusiasm, Glover encouraged Paul to extend his volunteer idea beyond his school community in the future. Those encouraging words led to the birth of Humanity World International in 2004, now run by a six person board, including Paul.
