Abusua Foundation
> Cape Coast, Ghana
The NGO: Abusua Foundation is a nonprofit organization which fosters youth participation in governance and development issues in Ghana through media and ICT. They also foster cross-cultural involvement and understanding through our volunteer placement programs.
The project objective: There are two trips planned for this NGO. The first trip will work on the expansion of Abusua Volunteer and Intern Service (AVIS) and/or a sustainability plan for their Youth ICT Center. The second trip will work on evaluating AVIS and/or consulting for a planned income generating organic farm. Areas of interest include marketing, website development/design, business plan writing, impact measurement and small venture start-up consulting.
Students with a background in marketing are strongly encouraged to apply. Students who are interested in impact measurement/project evaluation and entrepreneurship are also encouraged to apply.
Dates: 2 trips are available: May 13-June 4 and August 7-August 29
Costs: Approximately $1800-2200 (flight + room and board + some meals)
CIDRE
> Chochamba, Bolivia
The NGO: CIDRE is a non-profit organization founded in Chochamba, Bolivia in 1981 to promote economic and social development. To this end, they provide credit to micro, small and medium sized companies. They also research and finance social and environmental programs. They are also a KIVA partner.
The project objective: Primarily, students will focus on measuring the social impact of CIDRE. To do this, students will identify relevant parameters and variables, collect data and analyze the data through an econometric study.
Students with a background in economics and an interest in microfinance and Latin America are strongly encouraged to apply. Students need to be fluent in Spanish.
Dates: May 13 to June 8, possibly an off-site project to follow as well

City of Joy Foundation
> Cancun, Mexico
The NGO: City of Joy Foundation has worked to provide other NGOs with infrastructure and support to run their own programs. City of Joy aims to address the most pressing social needs of the community by being a "promoter" and "facilitator" of other NGOs to provide a space for collaboration and support. Within the City of JOy complex are various homes run by similar minded organizations. For more detailed information refer to their website.
The project objective: There are two trips planned for City of Joy. For the first trip, students are expected to run a general program audit and evaluation of operational efficiency. For the second trip, students will focus on developing sustainable income growth and diversification for the NGO. Areas of interest include impact measurement, operations, cross-organization partnerships, business plan writing and strategic planning.
Students who are interested in impact measurement/project evaluation and entrepreneurship are stronly encouraged to apply. Students who are fluent in Spanish are preferred. However, fluency is not required and those who do not know the language are still encouraged to apply.
Dates: 2 trips are available: May 17-June 21 and June 21-July 16

Humanity World International
> Accra, Ghana
The NGO: PIBV visited Humanity World International (hwi) summer 2008. "hwi organizes specific projects and cultural exchange trips tailored to the interests of volunteers, interns and partners worldwide to help them understand and alleviate the challenges of Ghana while gaining hands-on experience in their various fields of endeavor."
The project objective: Student consultants are expected to improve the marketing strategy PIBV developed for them in 2008. Apart from that, students will also create a fundraising strategy as well as a grant application manual. Areas of interest include marketing, fundraising and advertising.
Students with a background in marketing and/or fundraising are strongly encouraged to apply.
Dates: August 7 to August 29
Cost: Approximately $2250 (flight + room and board + some meals)
Volunteer Match Ghana
> Nungua, Ghana
The NGO: The mission of Volunteer Match Ghana offers foreigners with a meaningful experience in Africa through a volunteer or intern program. The organization provides volunteers and interns with various opportunities such as education, healthcare, human rights, etc...
The project objective: Student consultants are create a marketing strategy for them to target a wider audience. Students will also create a fundraising strategy as well as a grant application manual. Areas of interest include marketing, fundraising and advertising.
Students with a background in marketing and/or fundraising are strongly encouraged to apply.

Costs: Approximately $2000 (flight + room and board + some meals)
SABHA (Off-site)
> OFF-SITE
The NGO: The mission of SABHA is "to gather support to reduce poverty and eliminate hardship for orphans of natural disasters and HIV/AIDS, to educate and support carriers and children with Hemophilia in India, and to create awareness of the hardship, sickness, and poverty that confronts children in many parts of India and Asia." Specifically, SABHA runs education and aids/healthcare 4 programs in India and one clinic in Nepal. Currently, SABHA plans to start a school in Nepal.
The project objective: This project will be an off-site consultation project. This means that participants will have to commit to work with their team during the current semester until the project is completed. The project involves creating a 3-5 year business plan and fundraising strategy, a grant application manual, researching for the application of diplomatic security for teachers as well as possible resources to use for the school.
Students must also be comfortable with online research. Students must be able to commit time for this project during the rest of the semester.
Dates: The consultation project will begin in mid-March to mid-May.
