Position description
The Associate will perform research on Risk-related and Hedging
issues for Equity Long-Short Portfolios, working
in a small, analytically sophisticated department. The objective is
to improve the methods of measuring market,
event and liquidity risk, ultimately to improve portfolio
performance. The work will involve developing and refining
risk-related models and their associated products.
C++ is used for analytics not development; VB is a plus, not
required. The arena is Equities and is described by the
MD as prosaic linear factoring models for Equities and doing
regression analysis - someone who "teases" the
analysis out of the data. The Firm doesn't want someone who is using
only hi-powered methods because it is
believed that the candidate subsequently loses the insight needed.
He does like optimization methods, simulated
annealing or genetic algorithms, but with the right person , this can
be learned.
This position reports to an MD who has their Ph.D from MIT, and has
a very friendly mentor/teacher style. The
MD was with Morgan Stanley for 10 years, 4 years with Salomon
SmithBarney as their MD in charge of Risk
Management.
This is a very nurturing, collaborative environment.
