What is R.A.P-Line?
R.A.P-Line is a peer support telephone service established by and for Penn students to provide information, support and referrals. The Line is a confidential, anonymous, and free service open to all graduate and undergraduate students.
Well-trained, student active listeners can provide callers with their objective, undivided attention. However, RAP-Line is not a professional crisis hotline.Who staffs R.A.P-Line?
Volunteers are students who have been educated about the issues facing students on a college campus and the resources available to address them. RAP-Line staff have been trained for over forty hours in active listening and support skills, but we are not professional counselors.
When should I call R.A.P-Line?
You can call us about any concerns or problems that you're facing, large or small. We are around when you need to talk to someone who is willing to really listen to you. We are here when you have difficulty talking about something, even with close family and friends. RAP-Line volunteers are available when you want to discuss your feelings and concerns in a safe environment. We are here when no one else is around or has the time to talk.
What happens when I call the R.A.P-Line?
You will talk with a Penn student who is a trained student volunteer. You will have the opportunity to connect with an understanding peer. You will be able to explore your feelings, consider your options, and learn more about other resources that you can use.
