Penn Police Department (Public Safety)

Call the Penn Police for any emergency situation. Transportation to
Student Health or HUP ER will be provided in cases of illness or injury. In cases of drug or alcohol overdose, the primary concern of University and Penn Police is the safety of the individual, not prosecution and punishment.

Special Services is a unit of Public Safety. It provides crisis intervention and support, accompaniment to the hospital, assistance with police administration and/or court proceedings, transportation, temporary housing, and other kinds of assistance that may help overcome the trauma. They can also give you appropriate referrals.

The Department of Academic Support Programs provides a variety of resources to assist students as they pursue their educational goals, including guidance with learning styles and techniques, tutoring, and mentoring programs.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

Counseling and Psychological Services provides individual and group counseling and short term therapy, crisis counseling, workshops, consultation-outreach, psychological testing, a self-help library, and further referrals. Students generally visit CAPS with concerns of a personal, emotional, social, educational or vocational nature. All visits are confidential and off-campus referrals may be provided at the student's request.

Greenfield Intercultural Center

The Greenfield Intercultural Center was established to serve the needs of Penn's student of color communities and to promote understanding and interaction between students of all backgrounds. The GIC can offer referrals, advocacy, and a variety of resources about these issues.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Center

The LGBC supports Penn lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students, staff, and faculty, and increases the university community's understanding and acceptance of its sexual minority members. The Center provides a variety of services throughout the year for and concerning Penn's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

The Office of Health Education provides literature, peer education programs and other resources. These resources address a variety of health issues such as nutrition, eating concerns, body image, stress, sexual health, alcohol and other drug use and sexual assault.

Penn Women's Center

The Penn Women's Center provides counseling and crisis intervention, advocacy, information, referrals, support groups, education and policy development. Services are available for both women and men.

Student Health is located in the Penn Tower on the ground level next to the University Museum on 34th Street. The Student Health Service maintains a staff of physicians and nurse practitioners who treat and advise Penn students. SHS is divided into many departments which provide specialized care including medicine, nutrition, orthopedics, dermatology, gynecology and sexual health counseling. Referrals are also provided if needed.
