Bio:

Erica Miller earned her BS degree in zoology and DVM degree in cow rehabilitation from Oklahoma State University. She has been a full-time wildlife veterinarian for the past 18 years, serving as staff veterinarian at three wildlife rehabilitation centers during that time. She is presently with Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research, Inc., in Newark, Delaware. She has been on staff at three veterinary schools, and is currently adjunct faculty at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, co-teaching a class in Wildlife Medicine. Editor and author of several books, chapters, and articles related to wildlife medicine. She serves on the board of directors for the Mid-Atlantic States Avian Veterinary Association, the advisory board for the Delaware Wildlife Rehabilitators Association, the Endangered and Non-game Species Advisory Committee to the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife, and has been on the Board of Directors of the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association for 15 years, holding every office except Treasurer at some point in time.

Lecture Description:

This presentation will address common illnesses for which North American songbirds are commonly presented to a wildlife rehabilitation facility. The information will provide a quick reference for information regarding the cause, transmission, diagnosis and treatment of these more commonly encountered diseases, including those that are zoonotic. Sample cases will also be presented in this overview; references for additional information will be provided.
