Dr. Donald Stremme has nearly 35 years experience in small animal and exotics practice, including 27 years managing his own practice. He has also been the veterinarian for the Adventure Aquarium and the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences for over 15 years. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Zoology and received his V.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. During undergraduate school he spent a semester in Germany at the University of Cologne. During veterinary school he worked summers at the University of Hohenheim near Stuttgart, Germany. There he was responsible for water quality and the care of the many research animals from fish to raptors. He worked under Dr. Gottfried Schubert, a pioneer in fish husbandry and medicine. During his senior year at Penn, he spent two months at the Wilhelma Zoo in Stuttgart. He also completed the Aquavet(R) II program. Additionally he cared for the bats at the Franklin Institute, dolphins and sea lions at Six Flags Great Adventure and various circus animals. He translated the German book Giftschlangen into the English Venomous Snakes. He is a member of various professional organizations including the AVMA, PVMA, CVMA, AAZV, ARAV, AAV and IAAAM of which he is the current president. He serves on the AVMA Committee on the Human Animal Bond. Currently he is the interim director of Penn's Aquavet(R) program. |
