Greg Lewbart graduated from Gettysburg College in 1981 with a B.A. in biology and received an M.S. in biology with a concentration in marine biology from Northeastern University in 1985. In 1988, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Greg worked for a large wholesaler of ornamental fishes before joining the faculty at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993, where he is a professor of aquatic animal medicine. Greg is a diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine and was named Exotic DVM of the Year in 2007 by Exotic DVM Veterinary Magazine. Dr. Lewbart is an author on over 90 popular and scientific articles about invertebrates, fishes, amphibians and reptiles and speaks nationally and internationally on these subjects. He has also authored or co-authored 15 book chapters related to veterinary medicine of the above-mentioned taxonomic groups, and edited two veterinary books: Self Assessment Colour Review of Ornamental Fish (Manson Publishing and ISU Press, 1998) and Invertebrate Medicine (Blackwell Publishing, 2006). Greg has written two novels, Ivory Hunters (1996) and Pavilion Key (2000), Krieger Publishing, Malabar, Florida. Both stories are scientific mysteries that raise important issues about wildlife conservation and man's exploitation of the environment. He and his wife Diane Deresienski, also a veterinarian, live in Raleigh with their assorted pets.

The lab will introduce safe and efficient physical examination techniques and minimally-invasive diagnostic procedures for reptiles. Sex determination, cloacal wash, gastric wash, etc. skills will be taught in this laboratory.
