Heidi Stout Bio:

Dr. Stout is a 1991 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She has been a part of both the zoo (Pittsburgh Zoo, Philadelphia Zoo, North Carolina Zoo) and wildlife rehabilitation communities since 1985. Dr. Stout has spent the majority of her career on the full-time staff at Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research, as a member of its Oiled Wildlife Response team that responds to oil spills around the country and throughout the world. She has responded to more than 50 incidents, including participating in catastrophic spill responses impacting thousands of animals in South Africa, Spain, France and the Galapagos Islands.

Rebecca Dunne Bio:

Rebecca Dunne completed her undergraduate degree at Northwestern University and studied further in a post-baccalaureate program at Penn. Rebecca has worked at TSBRR for three years, both on the oil spill team and in the wild bird clinic. Previously, she worked at the [Ryan Small Animal] Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (VHUP) in the small animal ICU, and volunteered in Emergency Services there. Her professional interests include avian pathology, and she necropsies many of the wild birds that die at TSBRR.

Wet Lab Description:

This lab will introduce students to basic medical, cleaning and husbandry protocols used when treating wildlife impacted by oil or other contaminants.

 

Please note, because space is limited, symposium Lecture registration is reserved for veterinary students, technicians, pre-veterinary students and veterinarians. The Wetlab registration is open to veterinary students only.
