Director

DIRECTOR

The director selects the show. The cast size should be small (maximum 8-10). The length should be about one hour. The show will go on the road as well as the Penn shows, so a show where it is possible to have some kind of travelling set is necessary. If there is musical accompaniment, it should be limited in instrumentation - ideally, one piano, although we have had a small "pit" in the past.

The director is responsible for casting along with rehearsal staff. He or she runs the audition process, including attending the TAC-E directors' meetings.

The director is responsible for leading the rehearsals. Rehearsals should focus on the product (i.e. blocking, character development, etc.) as well as the process (i.e. getting the cast members in touch with their own childhoods, bonding the cast as a unit, etc.)

Additionally, the director must maintain an on-going dialogue with the designers and the production staff to assure that her/his/their vision for the show is seen and understood, as well as to assure open communication.

The director assures that the performances, including Penn and community shows, run smoothly.
