FAQ for Intro Tango Classes

by Elinora Hunyadi, Officer at Large

-What do I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes, easy for you to move in.

-- Do I need special shoes?
No, special shoes are not required. A pair of comfortable shoes which allow a natural movement of the foot are good for starting dancing tango. Women, especially, will want to *avoid backless shoes* (flip-flops, mules, etc).

--Do I need to bring a partner?
No, a partner isn't necessary. Typically, we rotate partners throughout class. Everyone gets to dance, and dancers tend to learn faster and more easily this way.

--I don't have any dance experience, can I still take the intro. class?
Yes! *You do not need any dance experience for Argentine Tango.* Argentine Tango is a social dance and is highly improvised, focusing on movement through connection between partners. It is very different than ballroom tango or other performance dance forms. In Argentine tango, the embrace and posture are more relaxed, and there are few/no "set sequences" of moves.
