Greetings esteemed Alumna or Alumnus,
On behalf of the University of Pennsylvania chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), we would like to invite your esteemed partnership in our mission to further the exposure and advancement of minority students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
The National Society of Black Engineers, chartered in 1975 at Purdue University, is the largest student run organization in the country. Since its onset, the mission of the organization, “to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community,” has been carried out by its growing membership, consisting of over 35,000 members of all backgrounds. The NSBE mission is furthered through the incorporation of community service, professional development, and academically focused programming.
The University of Pennsylvania NSBE chapter was chartered in 1979, and has since continued to remain an active and nationally recognized chapter. In 2012, our chapter was awarded “Region II Small Chapter of the Year” and “Most Innovative TORCH Program”, which recognizes the chapter’s extensive community outreach programs. Our chapter was also awarded the title of “Region II TORCH Chapter of the Year” for 2013 and 2014.
As we intend to continue to grow and in order to continue fulfilling the mission of the organization, we ask for your engagement in the 2016-2017 school year. We believe alumni support will be a pivotal component of our success in the future and look forward to the mentorship and opportunities such a relationship can foster.
